Dear Reader,

A few weeks ago the meteorological autumn started. The sun is still there, through which we can enjoy a wonderful late summer. Also in Radhadesh we still have beautiful days.

On September 4th we celebrated the appearance day of Srila Prabhupada, our founder and spiritual teacher.

September 17th was Radhastami, the appearance day of Srimati Radharani, Krishna's partner. She is the most high dedicated and the Queen of Vrindavan.

The harvest season is in full swing and we also enjoy the fruits of the hard work of our garden team. Courgettes, pumpkins, beetroot, lettuce, freshly squeezed apple juice, ... Come take a look and taste the great preparations that our devotees prepare every day.

We still have a number of festivities to come , so please feel free to visit us!

Hopefully see you soon!

KARTIK

October 24th was the start of the Kartik month. Kartik, also known as the month of Damodara, is a month for deepening one's love for Krishna. It is considered by Krishna’s devotees to be the holiest month of the year. During this month, devotees make extra vows, perform extra spiritual activities, and generally worship Krishna in His form as a young boy, Damodara, who was once bound at a mortar by His mother, Yashoda, as a punishment for stealing butter. Every morning and evening, everyone has an opportunity to show their heartfelt love and devotion to the Lord by offering ghee lamps and singing before Him in the temple.

This month ends on November 22nd, culminating with Diwali, the feast of the thousand lights, that is celebrated on November 3rd.

GOVARDHAN PUJA

On November 8th we will celebrate Govardhana Puja. This day commemorates the incident in the Bhagavata Purana when Krishna lifts Govardhan Hill to shelter the villagers from torrential rains. This shows that God will protect all of them who surrender unto Him. Devotees offer a great variety of food to Govardhan, who’s equal seen as Krishna, as a sign of gratitude.

New Year's

The end of the year is often seen for giving presents. But what do you give someone who already has everything? Have you ever thought about offering someone a membership? For only 10 euros per month, you can help him in his spiritual growth and support our community. Besides, you will get a free Bhagavad Gita. This might be an idea for a gift under the Christmas tree?

Spiritual inspiration

The story below reflects the importance and effects of taking the holy name and reading our scriptures like Bhagavad gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

An old farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson.

Every morning grandfather was up early, sitting at the kitchen table, chanting on his beads and reading his Bhagavad Gita.

His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could have.

One day the grandson asked: ‘Grandfather! I try to chant and read the Bhagavad Gita just like you but I don’t understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does chanting and reading the Bhagavad Gita do?’

The grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied: ‘Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water.’

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house.

The grandfather laughed and said: ‘You’ll have to move a little faster next time.’ and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.

This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

The old man said: ‘I don’t want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You’re just not trying hard enough.’ and he went out the door to watch the boy try again. At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house.

The boy again dipped the basket into the river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.

Out of breath, he said: ‘See Grandfather, it’s useless!’.

The old man said: ‘Do you think its useless? Look at the basket.’.

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out. ‘Son, that’s what happens when you chant the Holy Name and read the Bhagavad Gita. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you chant or read, knowingly or unknowingly you will be changed, inside and out. This is how Krishna works silently in our lives.’

Let’s pray to Lord Krishna to shower their mercy upon all of us so that we develop a taste for chanting the Holy Name of the Lord.
