The Historic Centre Canal and its four hydraulic lifts are considered a pure masterpiece of Belgian civil engineering and are one of the most remarkable examples of an industrial landscape of the last century. Originally intended to connect the Sambre and Scheldt basins and thus facilitate the transit of goods from the north to the south of the country, the Historic Centre Canal is now exclusively dedicated to river tourism.

Departing from the Strépy-Thieu cable car, you will board one of our promenade boats and let yourself be seduced by the bucolic charm of the Channel of the Historic Centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its hydraulic lifts, the only ones in the world that are still in their original state and that only work with the power of the water!
